Class Descriptions
A rich and diverse medley of fun and physicality for our youngest artists.
Dancing Babies (8 wks-crawling with a grown up)
This class embraces the joy of dance through the exploration of concept-based creative movement. Based on the "braindance" work of Anne Green Gilbert and the teachings of Dionne Kamara, adults will delight in dancing your child through space. The kinesthetic vocabulary encourages age appropriate neurological, emotional, and physical development using movement, rhythm, and instruments. It's a wonderful bonding experience for all.
Dancing Toddlers (Walking-3 yrs with a grown up)
Building and layering on the dancing babies platform, we continue to explore concepts of movement using voice, instruments, scarves, ribbons and our bodies.
Creative Ballet (2-3)
We float, flutter, and flourish in this fairytale introduction to ballet. Through music, song and movement, children will love exploring all the different ways their bodies move as they learn to take turns, partner up and move to the rhythm.
Boys Blast (2-3)
This is an all about boys celebration! Combining all dance genres, we use their natural athleticism and energy to explore and create.
Groove & Tumble Tots (2-3)
A fun and energetic introduction to tumbling. Children will explore all the cool ways to stretch, bend, jump and balance.
MI-SHAKE Early Stimulation Program (0-9months)
{Currently on hiatus} In the early stimulation program the babies and their adults are exposed to music and movement applied to daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. The music and movements stimulate the developmental milestones from 0-9 months as well as strengthen the relationship between the child and parent/caregiver. MI-SHAKE Introduction to music (9 months-3 years)
{Currently on hiatus} This is a music initiation class in Spanish especially created for NYC kids, their mothers, and care-givers. The love of music, encouraged by singing Latin American music, is spiced up with movement and body recognition as well as Spanish vocabulary.The results of the MI-SHAKE introduction to music program are shown in love of music, longer concentration spans, good intonation, broader vocabulary, strong personal relationships, musical thinking, interest in playing an instrument and rhythmic skills. Barefoot Babies

This interactive class draws on theories of Body Mind Centering to help parents support their babies through the first several months of life. Using yoga, massage, song and play we will joyfully nurture emotional, cognitive and physical development. Classes are designed to honor each baby's process allowing him/her to feel safe to explore and play. |
Ballet & Ballet Combo Classes
From creative basics to true technical presentation, students will florish with grace, poise, and strength. Younger students will experience the joy and beauty of classic ballet, from plie and port de bras to jeté's across the floor. Dancers in levels I, II and III continue to explore ballet in a more formal technical class including a ballet barre, center work and across the floor phrases. Expanding on vocabulary and articulation, we encourage our dancers to present the technique with grace, poise, and strength.
Ballet IB (7-9)
Acting, Voice & Keyboard
Acting class uses improvisation, pantomime and partner work to harness the wild imagination and free play of youth into performance and storytelling. Students are introduced to the world of theater including the importance of cooperation, teamwork and confidence.
Unleash your child's inner vocal star in our Voice class. Students learn basic vocal techniques while singing the best songs both old and new. In addition to posture, presentation and technique students in the older class will learn to sight sing (reading music).
Keyboard for Kids will introduce children to the world of music in a group setting while laying a foundation for future piano or other instrumental study. Over the course of a semester students will learn many short pieces, rhythmic values such as quarter and half notes, start to identify the names of the keys on a keyboard, and learn how to read musical notes on the staff. Each student will have his or her own keyboard to practice on in class and will have the opportunity to use WMAAC’s piano throughout the class semester. The class will use the Piano Adventures Primer book and will culminate in a group performance at the end of the semester. Fun group activities including marching to a beat, clapping rhythms, and singing songs will be included as well.
Creative Theater (4-6)
Jazz, Tap, and Contemporary
It's classic jazz, hip hop, and current/contemporary dance within one session. Students will "sample" each specific form for several weeks then switch. The class focus on energy, speed, dynamics & the technical aspects of each dance form.
Acro hip hop has all the moves you can imagine, plus great acrobatic skills. Perfect for those extra energized kids, this class combines focus and physicality.
Tap is an artform with a vast diversity of vocabulary, improvisation and creativity. Our tap I and II classes start with the fundamentals layered with rhythm, patterns and steadily more challenging combinations.
Basic breakdancing will explore the fundamentals of break dance for all those who love to do their dancing on their backs, knees, and hands. From the 6 step to top rock, you will be able to wow friends and family with your new skills.
It's hot and sassy in our Salsa class. Dancers learn footwork, are introduced to partnering skills, performance technique, stylized movement, rhythm work and great music!
The Best of Michael Jackson is just that- the best! Learn the moves of a master: moon walk, spin, and stand on your toes in this exploration of the king of pop. Multiple rhythms of the body, quickness and attitude are all part of this energetic hour.
Musical Theater- it's time to dance and sing (with some acting in there as well). If you have a performer at home, this is the perfect class to enrich and encourage. From classic song and dance routines to current productions, our evolving artists will travel the great white way.
Boys, Tumbling & Capoeira
Boys Blast is an all about boys celebration! Combining all dance genres, we use their natural athleticism and energy to explore and create.
In Tumbling I we explore basic motor skills including: balancing, stretching, rolling, and jumping with alot of fun and warmpth. Students will learn to frog jump, log roll, crab walk, forward roll and more through songs & games.
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that incorporates elements of dance and acrobatics to create a truly unique and fun game between two players. In the learning process, students will also discover the fascinating history, language and music of Brazil. It is truly a cultural adventure while developing body strength, coordination, confidence and respect for self and others.

Circus Arts
Toss things up, throw yourself around, turn inside out and upside down! Make your friends and family go "Oooh" & "Aahh!" It's never too early to begin! Little toppers I and II learn basic circus skills in balance, acrobatics and juggling. Simple coordination and motor skills are introduced, as well as working with one another. the use of body and props introduces a sense of focus and timing and encourages children to be inventive with their new "tools" of expression.

Ground skills: A springboard for those previously enrolled or those just beginning. An emphasis on strength training and conditioning (warm-up, the "stands",trapeze), hand-eye coordination (juggling, diablo, hula hoops) balancing bravado (tightwire, rolling globe and rolla bolla). More challenging partner work and pyramids, as well as showmanship skills: learning how to present, style and thread new found tricks into an act.
Aeriel art: For those students who have previously completed a course of ground skills and developed the strength, flexibility and focus to continue developing their aerial abilities. The class will alternate between static trapeze and lyra, working with students at their individual levels. Participants will also learn duo combinationson each apparatus.
HOOPLAH!
A Family Fun Night, designed to let friends and relatives see what students are learning and to allow them to participate, themselves! Kids in the programs become the teachers: showing and guiding their families in working with props and apparatus. A great venue for children to share their new-found confidence and skills, and to offer outsiders a "hands-on" view!
