Empowering through Dance.

The Williamsburg Movement & Arts Center (aka WMAAC) is a place where vibrant artists are developed and shaped. Our studios provide a variety of over 50 weekly children’s dance, voice and theater classes at our center located at 347 Grand Street in Brooklyn. Additionally, we offer adult open level dance programing (no experience needed), inviting the community to come on in and share in the experience. Our faculty create a warm and embracing environment allowing everyone to feel empowered, strong and successful at the end of each class.

Our recent expansion and collaboration with The Moving Beauty Series to create The Intimate Series facilitates affordable classes, workshops and rehearsal studios to pre-professional and professional dancers & choreographers. As a performance venue, WMAAC facilitates emerging choreographers a place to evolve their work, as well as established choreographers an intimate forum to connect to their audiences.

WMAAC’s Teaching Artists share their artistic passion to over 3,000 students weekly through our Arts-In-Education workshops and residencies. Traveling to individual schools, we bring physicality, creativity and confidence building programs and performing opportunities to a broader audience. We also provide Masterclasses and Lecture Demonstrations at schools and on site at our studios. Fieldtrips to WMAAC range from deepening the classroom bond through team building movement classes or delving into the folk dance of culture they’re covering in their academic classes.

Opened in 2010 by Lakey Evans-Peña, The Williamsburg Movement & Arts is easily accessible to the L, G, and J/M/Z trains and features 3 Marley covered sprung wooden floor studios that convert to a large open singular space. The studios can be used for private class rentals, rehearsals, photo shoots, teacher trainings as well as parties and small private events.
